New Young Jeezy, Usher, Little Brother, Fabolous….

March 4, 2010

Fabolous – All The Way Turnt Up Freestyle
I swear I’ve been dying to hear at least one more rapper spit over this beat. Off of Fab’s upcoming mixtape with DJ Drama, There Is No Competition 2.

Usher – Venus vs Mars
Okay, so here’s some career advice for you Mr. Raymond…
1.) Get back with Chili, cheat on her so she can dump you, then go record an album about the whole thing.
2.) Stop wearing leather capris.

Young Jeezy – Lose My Mind ft. Plies
Ahh yes, I can see it now…hood chicks throughout the USA will be in the clubs this summer rockin’ their House of Dereon track suits, smelling like grape blunt paper and Hennessy while bussin’ it wide open to this song.

Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon – Criminology 2.5
When I first heard these three were talking about doing an album, I thought it would take about as long as OB4CL2 took to come out. Well I was wrong…March 30th.

Little Brother – Curtain Call
This is off of LeftBack, LB’s last album. *tear drop* It’s just not fair…OJ Da Juiceman is still rapping but Little Brother is calling it quits. The end of days is upon us.

Mikkey Halsted – The Best You nEver Heard…

February 16, 2010
Mikkey Halsted…the name may or may not ring a bell to those of you outside of Chicago, but he’s been on the rap scene for quite some time. He was signed to Kanye West’s label before Kanye was signed to The ROC. Back when he was signed to Cash Money, he taught Lil’ Wayne how to rap without saying “Wobblely, Wobblely” in every song. Now he’s preparing his debut album, The Photo Album (produced by NO I.D.), for its release. In the meantime, or shall I say the in-between time, Mikkey’s dropping this mixtape and the the upcoming Dark Room mixtape in an effort to hold his fans over until the album drops.

Hosted by DJ Toure Stylz, this mixtape (which is a collection of old, new and unreleased material), will help you get familiar with the uncrowned king…Mikkey Halsted, “Get Right or Get Left“…

New Consequence, Yelawolf, Ludacris, Noreaga…

January 19, 2010

Most of these songs have been out for a while. I’m still playing catch-up….I have about 20 more songs and about 5 mixtapes to post. I was hopping on my mom’s neighbors wireless internet but they must’ve gotten hip because they suddenly protected their connections. I should be back in my place by the end of this week so bare with me til then….

Consequence – Whatever You Want Bad Boy (Remix) Ft. Diddy & The LOX
So this is the 2nd remix of this song. I liked the original, the 1st remix as well and this remix is actually okay….but they could do 3 more and

Yelawolf – Deer Mama
I have no clue what a Yelawolf is but I fux wit this. Guess I’ll finally go and listen to his Trunk Muzik mixtape. Btw this song is off of SMKA – The 808 Experiment: Vol 2 and that’s not a typo, they spelled “Deer” like that on purpose.

Ludacris – “O Let’s Do It (Freestyle)”
As hard as Luda goes in sometimes, will he ever be mentioned in anybody’s top 10 list?

Noreaga – Exhibit CNN
Let’s get something straight. No one, and I mean no one can touch Jay Electronica when it comes to rapping over this beat. But out of all the rappers I’ve heard spit over this, suprisingly Nore’s version is the only one I like. Jus Blaze agrees as well.

New Reflection Eternal, Drake, Skillz, Jojo Pellegrino…

January 7, 2010

You know the deal, I’ve been away for a minute so I’m playin’ catch up. If you don’t already have these, here you go…

Reflection Eternal – Just Begun Ft. Jay Electronica, J. Cole & Mos Def
If Jesus listened to hip-hop this is what he’d have in his ipod.

Drake – It’s Been A Pleasure
Despite rappin’ along side Baby for damn near his whole album, the yellow one hasn’t lost a step. “If amazing was a young b***h, I’d be going to jail cuz I’m f**kin’ amazing

Skillz – Rap Up 09′
Smh, here’s this guy with his one song a year….now back to his job at Chik-fil-a.

Jojo Pellegrino – Triple Homicide Ft. Sean P & Inspectah Deck
I remember Jojo from a few years back. I thought he went to school or got a day job and gave up on rap. Oh well…I only gave this a listen because “the brokest rapper you know” is on it.

Bonus: Want to see a video of Drake on Nickelodeon’s version of “MTV Cribs” from back in his Degrassi days? Hit the jump…

New Sade, Alicia Keys, Joell Ortiz, Vinnie Paz…

December 8, 2009
Sade – Soldier of Love
Her 1st single in 8 years. No extra commentary here…the name Sade speaks for itself.

Alicia Keys – Unthinkable Ft. Drake
Nope, Drake’s not rapping on this….he’s just singing background vocals. Am I the only one that finds it funny that Alicia Keys went and got Drake to sing background on one of her songs?

Joell Ortiz – Make It Without You

Joell’s grandmother passed away the other day and he raps about it over Alicia’s “Tryin’ To Sleep With A Broken Heart“. Since none of my grandparents are around anymore, I definitely know where he’s coming from on this song.

Vinnie Paz – Street Wars Ft. Clipse

I have no clue who Vinnie Paz is. So it should make it obvious that I posted this song because it features the Clipse.

New Ludacris, Wale, Jamie Foxx, Kelis and….

December 2, 2009
…some other people. Okay, once again I’m playin’ catch up, so most of these aren’t new…they’ve just been sitting around in blog purgatory.

Ludacris – How Low Can You Go
*sigh* This song is okay for high school pom pom teams and footworkin’ crews here in Chicago, but I’m gonna need Luda to go a lil’ harder like he did on this. That way people just might start mentioning him when they make their best rappers list.

Consequence – Whatever You Want Remix Ft. Common, Big Sean & KiD CuDi
I fux with this, but then again the original was the ish to me. Unfortunately, I have a better chance at blowing up as a rapper than Consequence.

Wale – Beast
You never Reggie Bush me if you’ve been Ray J’d” Ha ha…he made a funny. He should’ve put this on his album. Not that it would’ve helped it sell more, but I prefer this over some of his other tracks.

Jamie Foxx – Speak French Ft. Gucci Mane
I don’t care for this (at the moment), but I can definitely see this goin’ hard in both clubs, regular and strip. Shout out to “Bottoms Up” in St. Louis (Brooklyn, IL to be exact)….I’ll be back. Change for a $100 anyone?

Kelis – Acapella
This might be a hit……in the dance/techno clubs. White lines and glow sticks all day. I’m proud of her for actually going back to work and not focusing all of her energy towards draining Nas’ life force.

Nelly – She Got Me
This shit goes beyond terrible….like if terrible was Earth this song would be Pluto. This shit sounds like a mash-up of Akon, Luther Vandross and Mtume. I don’t even think Nelly raps on this, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Gucci Mane Ft. Cam’ron & Lil Wayne – Stupid Wild
Ahhh yes, this is one of those songs that reminds me of that group of guys in the club dancin’ around, throwin’ up gang signs and they all smell of weed, Hennessy, ignorance and failure.

Charles Hamilton – Charles Hamilton Is Back

Just when you thought he didn’t have anymore rings left in him…he’s back. I gotta give it to him, at this point I was expecting him to enroll in some random college, major in graphic design and give up on rap…but he’s still rappin’. While I like this song, let’s be honest…he’s only delaying the inevitable

Welcome To Chicago’s iLLaNOise…

November 2, 2009

…is latest mixtape from my brother from another, Jay-iLLa. The official press release, download link and tracklist are after the jump, but let me just say a few things really quick…

1.) Get familiar….this is a REAL mixtape…..from a REAL DJ.

2.) No, he’s not screaming his name and a bunch of bullshit over an iTunes playlist.

3.) No, he didn’t just pick up a laptop, install iTunes, purchase Serato and start spinning yesterday.

4.) ……Go IL or Go Home.

“The Windy City’s own iLLaNOise aka Jay iLLa presents his latest mixtape, Chicago’s iLLaNOise. This is the first of an upcoming series of mixes that merges new age mixtape style with an old school mixtape feel. With each installment, iLLaNOise will cover different genres of music including 80s, house, pop and more!

iLLaNOise blends well known gems from the likes of Jay-Z, Drake and Notorious B.I.G with original tracks from some of Chicago’s hottest local talent. “I wanted to pick fun records that my fans can relate to and at the same time, provide a platform for Chicago’s unsigned talent,” said Jay iLLa of his inspiration behind the project.”

New Jay Electronica, Apathy, Skyzoo, J. Cole, Vstylez…

November 2, 2009
Sorry, no Jeezy, Drake, Wayne or Jay-Z in this music post. I figure all of those guys get enough exposure as it is, so I decided to post some music from a few artist who don’t have the spotlight shinin’ on them. Enjoy…

Jay Electronica – Exhibit C (Snippet)
This snippet goes harder than most rappers’ entire album. Definitely one of the most underrated rappers in the game. If you don’t agree after hearing this, please go find the closet expressway and proceed to play Frogger. Btw that sample Just Blaze used is from one of my favorite old school artist, Billy Stewart, who just happens to be the artist for the upcoming Marker’s Mark post.

Apathy – Guys And Girls Ft. Blue Raspberry
This off of Apathy’s new album Wanna Snuggle?, which was pretty good btw. He goes in on some of the paranoid traits that both men and women display while in relationships that are void of trust. Apathy’s been out for a long time and I’m just not discovering him this year…better late than never though.

Skyzoo – Dear Whoever
Ever since I heard Skyzoo’s 9th Wonder produced mixtape, Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, I’ve been checkin’ for him. This song is off of his new album, The Salvation.

J. Cole – Simba
Chances are you recognize the name J. Cole from his feature on the song “A Star Is Born” off of the Blueprint 3. Then again he’s been buzzin’ all over the internet for quite some time, but I never took the time out to listen him. Then D Grizzle put me on to this song off of J. Cole’s mixtape, The Come Up and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not holding my breath for a debut album considering the fact that he’s signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Vstylez – Clash of the Titans Ft. Royce 5’9″, Rapper Big Pooh, Elzhi and Phat Kat
Never heard of Vstylez but I fux with just about everybody on this track so I decided to check it out…I wasn’t disappointed.

The Thought of H-Town and Jodeci…

October 19, 2009

..making a song together would be hot if it was 1993. Unfortunately for them, it’s 2009 and….well, there is no “and”. The fact that it’s 2009 should be reason for them to leave well enough alone, but nope they had to go and do this…

H-Town Feat. Jodeci – Knockin’ Yo Heels Off

Umm “Knockin Da Boots 2K9 Yo Heels Off“??….I’m speechless…and confused. I mean how in the hell did this come about? Has there been a demand for a Jodeci and H-Town collaboration that I just somehow managed to miss? I mean seriously, I don’t think anybody’s been holding their breath to hear these two groups together…if they were they would’ve died about 16 years ago. I guess they’re both planning a comeback and they figure two washed-up 90’s R&B groups are better than one. *sigh* What’s next?

Mokenstef and Zhane’? Fuck it…let’s take back even further, what about Ready For The World and Troop? The sad part is that I was a fan of both of these groups…but damn, sometimes you don’t have to see the credits roll to know that the movie’s over. Smh, well in their defense this would’ve been a hit back in the early ’90s. I just hope that they don’t go on tour together because you know what happens when K-CI & JoJo perform…
